The United States Census Bureau has proposed updates to federal census regulations to ensure the 2030 census accurately counts only American citizens for apportionment [allocation of representation] of Congressional Seats. Right now, states with large numbers of illegal immigrants are getting extra representation in Congress because those individuals are being counted in the census.
The census should count citizens and legal residents — the people who follow the law, pay taxes, and contribute to our communities legally. This change will not affect allocation of local social services. It will help ensure that only citizens are represented in Congress through Congressional Apportionment.
